Monday Made It... 7/22

I'm so excited to share my Monday Made It this week!

Earlier this summer I read both 'The Daily Five', and 'CAFE', and am really excited about implementing them in my classroom.  One of the things that I need to do this well, is book boxes for my students to store their books and readers notebooks in.

Plastic book boxes aren't in my budget this year, but I still wanted fun color and something that would go with my room's decor, so I went over to Ikea and picked up the Flyt magazine holders (5 for $1.99).  Then I went to Lowe's and bought some spray paint, and got some ribbon from Michael's.  I was a little worried that the paint would soak into the cardboard and they would turn into a mushy mess, but it ended up working out just fine :)

I set up a spray painting area by using the huge box from the new lawnmower my husband bought last week, and got my book boxes put together.  Then I got ready to spray away!

The first time, I painted the whole box and left it outside to dry for an hour or so.  But it's SO humid in NC that there was NO WAY it was ever going to dry outside.

On to Plan B...I started just painting one side at a time, and then bringing the boxes into the house to dry.  I was able to cover about 10 boxes with one can of spray paint.

Once I had all of the boxes painted, I wanted to add class number labels to the outside.  I had made Tara's (4th Grade Frolics) Homework Club board last week (love this!)...

...and decided to re-purpose (multi-purpose??) the numbers from her freebie!  I added some ribbon and tied the numbers onto the fronts of the book boxes.

I love the way they turned out!!!  I can't wait to see how they look in my classroom :)  Go over to 4th Grade Frolics to check out the other awesome Monday Made It's!

  1. I love the way those book boxes came out. I'm really debating how to handle the book boxes in my room this year. I can't decide if I should fork out the money for reusable ones or go with cardboard ones like yours, or cut cereal boxes, etc...

You're going to LOVE doing Daily 5 and CAFE by the way!

  6. Love your colors! They are mine, too! I had similar issues with spray painting and humidity this week. It rained nearly every day this past week.
